Having moved to Las Vegas in 2002, I chose to reside in Summerlin, a master- planned community on the western slope of the Las Vegas valley. I enjoy Summerlin very much – the amenities, restaurants, events and shopping. In my free time, I can be found playing tennis, at a Summerlin park with my rescue dog Barclay, taking in an outdoor concert, rooting for the Aviators or dining with friends in Downtown Summerlin.
Having grown up in the midwest, Summerlin seemed like a brand new world. I fondly refer to it as the biosphere because you literally have everything you need within a short distance so you never need to leave. With so many trails you can easily get just about anywhere on foot or bike. Summerlin is a Las Vegas suburb but still a 20 minute drive to The Strip for shopping, entertainment and dining.
Downtown Summerlin
A vibrant walkable urban center in the heart of community, Summerlin’s most active urban destination is waiting to be explored. A diverse, world-class and homegrown mix of shops, restaurants, indoor and outdoor venues and events, including the Las Vegas Ballpark® and City National Arena, home to the Golden Knights practice facility. My favorite restaurants include a wine bar, Grape Street, Trattoria Reggianno with an open patio area and live music on the weekends, and of course Lazy Dog which even has a menu for your furry friend. All about DTS.
Red Rock Conservatory
Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area has more than 200,000 acres of climbing routes, hiking, cycling and equestrian trails, a beautiful Visitor Center and some amazing Rock Stars – the resident desert tortoises. Its an amazing place and I have spent many Sunday afternoon hiking with friends and even an occasional twilight hike with an experienced friend. It also attracts lots of cyclist which ride “the loop” as well as trail bike riders. All about Red Rock Canyon.
